A running time of 2 hours 43 minutes. I for one, am looking forward to this film, far more than The Dark Knight.

If you're a fan I can understand it. The movie does not seem to be in the class of THE DARK KNIGHT though...only 6 of 18 reviews from "top critics" on RT are positive.

Will make a lot of money this weekend though.

I'm debating on seeing this tonight if we have the time. As I guessed most of the mainstream reviews are mixed and trending downwards.

I have read now in numerous places that audiences have found a certain sex scene in the movie unintentionally funny, with loads of reports of people laughing outloud during it. That, and also some female movie goers walking out during the attempted rape scene.

The song choice during the scene is what really pushes it into "silly" territory. Laughing

So what's the verdict MJ? Entertaining or can I wait three months for video?

The film is not 300. It's dense, talky, crammed with flashbacks, and the "silliness" of the costumes are only heightened on the screen as opposed to the page. That said, I enjoyed the film for what it was, but I'm waiting for the director's cut DVD before I pass final judgement.

Worth it on the big screen? For the visuals, yes. For the sure-to-be-giggling-throughout audience? Maybe not.

That's pretty much what I thought about the film. Perhaps it was a bit too long for my liking, but overall it was enjoyable. Now onto the Cinema itself. I saw the film at the AMC South Barrington 30 and what I saw there I have to say horrified me. I went along for the 10:45am screening, and this guy brought his six year old daughter along to the film. The film is quite excessive with the violence and has an attempted rape scene along with the sex scene later on in the film. I mad enquiries as to why AMC would let someone that young into see this film. I was told legally there's nothing they can do, as long as they are supervised by and adult. Oh, that's alright then. Let a six year old see a rape scene that's okay. As long as the adult is with them everything is fine. Perhaps the MPAA should change the guidelines on the ratings. In the UK, Watchmen has been given an 18 certificate. That means nobody under the age of eighteen can see the film. So if someone turns up with their six year old daughter, they will get turned away. Perhaps it's time for the MPAA to wake up.

I've been reading reports of that and it's absolutely sick...some people need to have their heads examined. Or not have children at all.

An IQ test springs to mind. Fail the test, don't have children. Simple as that.

The problem is, anything with superheroes in it will be catnip to children, and parents ghettoize such stuff by thinking they're all appropriate for their six-year-olds to see (and, for the record, I firmly believe no children under the age of, say, eight, should see a movie in the theater, even a G-rated one. Just wait for the DVD, please). It's galling to think of some unsuspecting parent bringing little Billy to see Watchmen expecting Spider-Man 4 and seeing attempted rape and kinky sex and buckets of gore. Theater owners should be more firm in pointing out the R-rating on films like this when thoughtless/uneducated parents saunter up to the ticket window with a fidgety toddler in tow. Not only are those kids going to ruin the experience for the other theater patrons when they start screaming and crying, but the poor kid's also going to be traumatized for weeks afterwards. Evil or Very Mad

As I figured WATCHMEN's projections are now at $55 million for the weekend -- down a fairly sizable amount from the $70+ mil some had anticipated.

Certainly not bad but I get the strong impression now that the hard-core comic geeks have seen it, along with anyone else who was interested, that it's going to have a difficult go of it from here on out. With the budget and marketing campaigns being what they are, not to mention what Fox is going to get out of it, it may be a struggle for this to turn a profit.

I called my local AMC Cinema and spoke to the Manager. Although he he agreed with me, he said legally there's nothing he can do. It seems I wasn't the only person who has complained this weekend. He urged me to contact their Corporate office.
